Parker Brothers is established in Salem.

Founded by George Parker, the company produces more than 30 popular games by 1888. Incorporated on December 12, 1901, the company achieves its greatest success when it buys Monopoly from Charles Brace Darrow of Pennsylvania in 1934 and releases it on November 5, 1935. The company is acquired by General Mills Corporation in 1968 and by Hasbro in 1991.
